About the event

Details

Friday the 13th is a 1980 American slasher film

The film tells the story of a group of teenagers who are murdered one by one by an unknown killer while attempting to re-open an abandoned campground,

Prompted by the success of John Carpenter Halloween the film was made on an estimated budget of $550,000 and released by Paramount Pictures in the United States and by Warner Bros. In the years that followed, retrospective reviews for the film have been more positive, and it has become a cult classic

Every Year Gilligan's Adventures try to Embrace Halloween.

We have traveled to Salem, Massachusetts, Sleepy Hollow and have had a few Weird NJ Tours.

So this Year on Friday, October 13, 2023 "We" are off to where "Jason" roams the streets and alleys of downtown Blairstown, NJ.

In the early fall of 1979 filmmaker Sean S. Cunningham chose the area in and around scenic Blairstown, New Jersey as the location to film his low budget horror film. Blairstown offered the rural and rustic charm needed as a backdrop for the movie. At the time, this type of violent and bloody horror film had not yet been produced. When the movie debuted on May 9, 1980 it started a genre of film-making that has remained popular ever since. The movie has become a cult classic.

On Friday the 13th, we will pay tribute to the 1980 cult slasher classic: “Friday The 13th, Part 1”, Its time to visit this quiet rural village in scenic Warren County, NJ.

Horror film fanatics from across the country flock to the area to tour the local filming locations, we will conclude our Tour/ visit with a screening of the movie "Friday the 13th" in the theater in Blairstown, NJ

Roy's Hall, a theater on Main Street, is featured in the opening scenes of the movie. It can be seen as a red building shown as Annie walks down the hill towards the town. To commemorate the movie the theater has had screenings on the date of Friday the 13th to the thrill of moviegoers from as far away as Canada, Florida and Europe. On this and other occasions Jason has been seen lurking about town.

The theater and other area landmarks are prominently featured in the film and audiences go wild whenever they appear. Blairstown is a small town West of Newton, NJ, located in the Northwestern corner of the state, close to the Pennsylvania border. Sean Cunningham chose this location because it provided the perfect small town setting for the events of the fictional "Camp Crystal Lake" to take place.
