About the event
One of the best things to do along the Hudson River is visit Pollepel Island, a tiny jewel in the setting of the Hudson Highlands.
Bannerman Castle, on Pollepel Island, is an iconic Hudson River.
Millionaire Francis Bannerman bought Pollepel Island in 1900 and started building a storehouse for his Military munitions. He personally designed to resemble a Scottish castle, now known as Bannerman Castle.
Once an uninhabited place, accessible only by boat, it was considered haunted by some Indian tribes and thus became a refuge for those trying to escape them. These superstitions and others promoted by later Dutch sailors make for many fanciful tales. Even the name Pollepel (Polopel) originated with a legend about a young girl named (Polly) Pell who was romantically rescued from the breaking river ice and landed on the island shore, where she was promptly married to her sweetheart, who rescued her and her companion. The island was thereafter called Pollepel.

Next Stop "Dia" Museum
Built in 1929 by Nabisco, the nearly 300,000 square foot factory building is composed of brick, steel, concrete, and glass and is considered to be a model of early twentieth century industrial architecture. It stands as a symbol of Beacon’s past as a major industrial and manufacturing city.
Occupying a former Nabisco box printing factory on the banks of the Hudson River, Dia:Beacon presents Dia’s collection of art from the 1960s to the present as well as special exhibitions, new commissions, and public and education programs. Since its opening in May 2003, Dia:Beacon has helped transform the city of Beacon into a vibrant arts destination for visitors from the region, New York City, and beyond.
