Lower East Side Food Tour + Tenement Museum Immigration Experience

Prompt departure time at 10:00 am from Paramus Whole Foods Market parking lot. We go straight to the Tenement Museum located at the Lower East Side (LES) Marathon: (All tours led by professional Museum Educators) 

Tour 1: LES Food Walking Tour (2 hr with appx. 5~8 stops). Learn about the Lower East Side through food! This walking–and tasting–tour explores the neighborhood through the culinary traditions of communities that called the Lower East Side home. Taste flavors from the German, Jewish, Italian, Caribbean and Chinese communities who brought new cuisines to America. Discuss what food tells us about immigration history, the Lower East Side, and wider American culture. Sample foods like Bavarian-style pretzels, kosher pickles, Beijing-style dumplings, Dominican-style fried plantains and more! 

Tour 2: Immigration Experience: Victoria Confino (90 mins) Discover life as an immigrant in 1916 through the eyes of 14-year-old Victoria Confino. A costumed actor portraying Victoria provides a first-person perspective inside her apartment. Hear Victoria share experiences about immigrating to America from Greece, living at 97 Orchard Street with her parents and five brothers, and adjusting to life on the Lower East Side. Visitors can engage with Victoria, explore her home, and ask questions about her daily life and the journey of becoming American. 

Free time to explore! So many options: go back to one of the food stops, shop at the Museum store, get an iconic sandwich/pickle(!) from Katz's Deli, enjoy yummy soup dumpling/dim sum in China Town, find the best cannoli in Little Italy, visit the Photography Museum a few blocks away... just to name a few.
